Safe and secure in your Port Moresby hotel

Port Moresby is a rapidly growing city in a developing country. With major resource programs being developed and coming on stream, the hub of it all, Port Moresby, is seen as a magnet promising opportunity to people from around the country and around the world.

Unfortunately, not everyone's dreams can be realized immediately resulting in inequalities and inevitably, crime. We understand this so we take steps to ensure your safety and security.

Our hotel security arrangements aim to ensure your comfort and safety

The Ponderosa Family Hotel’s own trained, uniformed security guards are on duty 24/7.
  • We offer FREE transfers to and between the hotel and the airport
  • The hotel is fully fenced
  • Ten of our own trained, uniformed security personnel are on duty at key points and patrolling the grounds of the hotel 24/7. Most have worked for us for many years; they are tried and true
  • We provide ample car parking and it is secure within our hotel boundary fence
  • Security lights cover key hotel areas at night
  • CCTV cameras monitor key areas of he hotel 24/7
  • We have our own back-up power to ensure the hotel lights stay on during power outages.
Security guards are located at key points in the Ponderosa Hotel’s building and grounds.

We try to make our hotel security measures as unobtrusive as possible, but you will notice some of them. Perhaps most obvious are the security personnel stationed around the hotel and grounds. Most have been with us for many years and understand our mission of making sure you have an enjoyable and safe stay in Port Moresby.

When you are away from the hotel, we would urge you to:

Secure car parking is within the hotel’s grounds.
  • Not flaunt money or expensive items like cameras and jewelry
  • Do your shopping and get your entertainment in secure areas like Vision City, Waigani Central, and the bigger hotels
  • Avoid walking around overloaded with goods
  • Keep aware of your surroundings, the people around you, and what is happening. If emotion starts to run high, move away
  • Avoid getting into a crush -- crushes are heaven for pickpockets and bag snatchers
  • Do not stop to talk to people you do not know who try to engage you on the street -- keep walking
  • Do not walk the streets at night
  • And for your health, drink plenty of water. In the tropics, you must keep you water level up!

In fact, the same rules apply when you are visiting any strange city, but in Port Moresby, it might be a good idea to be just a little more vigilant than in some other places.
